Yana arrived in Canada on December 6, 2022, a date she remembers vividly. “It was a very quick decision, but the rightest decision I could have ever made,” she explains. Forced to leave Ukraine because of geopolitical turmoil, she found unexpected safety, peace, and support upon arriving in Toronto.
“All my life experience helped me realize that home is not a place — it is a moment when your heart feels healed,” Yana says. “For me, that moment was the day I arrived in Canada. During the last three years, I kept thinking about how I could show this feeling to others. That’s how this design came to life.”
Her inspiration was to create a piece that captures the emotional reality of many newcomers: finding beauty, comfort, and belonging in a new land.
A Collaboration Rooted in Shared Values
The partnership between Jewels4Ever and Yana began with an online exchange of ideas. Anita Agrawal, CEO of Jewels4Ever, recalls the moment she first saw Yana’s design:
Agrawal immediately knew she wanted to support the project. “It didn’t matter to me that we would produce it at our own cost. I believed in this project from the moment I saw it. Canada is home to people from all around the world, and this pendant beautifully represents that spirit.”
Toronto — one of the world’s most multicultural cities — deeply shaped the collection’s theme. “In my office alone, we have people from Africa, India, China, Colombia… and we work with partners from most countries,” Agrawal adds. “Yana’s story reflects the story of millions who see Canada as home, whether by choice or necessity. It’s powerful.”

The collection aims not only to represent Canada, but also to capture what makes the country feel like home. For Yana, that includes its kindness, diversity, and uniquely supportive culture:
“In Canada, people from all over the world manage to live together in peace. I was shocked — in a beautiful way — because in Europe, conflicts and divisions often exist even among one nation. But in Toronto, people with completely different backgrounds work, live, and grow together,” she explains.
She recalls small yet meaningful gestures that shaped her early days in the country — including a box of free apples on a sidewalk offered by local residents. “It was so simple and so sweet. In Canada, it’s not rare — it’s normal. And that shocked me in the best way.”
These daily moments of kindness, combined with the broader sense of multicultural unity, inspired her to create a piece that symbolizes safety, hope, and community.
“These pendants were created to help people feel belonging,” says Yana. “When you come here and you feel it — you really can feel it. And this piece is a symbol of that presence in Canada, in this great society.”
